For my Element 2 final year self-directed project, I designed and made a costume for the character Pilar Ternera from 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' by Gabriel García Márquez. Published in 1967 and set between the early 1800s and the mid 1900s, the novel explores the life of the Buendía family and the people of their village, Macondo. Whilst the story is fictitious, the book explores key themes central to Colombia's history - politics and war, folklore and mythology, tradition and culture, and industrialisation.
